Cultural activities, implemented by “un été au ciné” (“Summer at the movies”), at the time of its creation in 1991, were essentially aimed at young people from so-called “rough” districts. The network has since evolved, people have acquired new skills and changed their practises, which brought partners in contact with a wider variety of audience.
Driven by social and cultural convictions, people involved with the network do their best to go and meet “anyone with no access to culture, due to economic, cultural or social reasons, because of health problems or location issues.” (See the interview of Arian Salmet -DDAI-MCC). In other words, they try to reach any public considered “impeded” by the CNC (Centre national du cinéma et de l’image animée), by trying to increase their awareness of film practices and bring to them the principles of film education.
From prisoners to patients in hospitals, through publics from remote areas, Passeurs d’images always tries to enlarge the horizon of “its” publics.
Most texts proposed in the “Reflections” section testify of such a development and are a reminder that one cannot “approach publics without reflecting upon the place they are granted in the very elaboration of a cultural project.”
