Cultural activities organised by “Un été au ciné” (“Summer at the movies”), at the time of its creation in 1991, were essentially aimed at young people from so-called “sensitive” areas. The network has since evolved, people have acquired new skills and changed their behavioural patterns, leading partners to a wider variety of audience.
Driven by social and cultural convictions, people involved with the network do their best to go and meet “anyone with no access to culture, due to economic, cultural or social reasons, because of health problems or location issues.” (See Interview with Ariane Salmet - DDAI-MCC). In other words, they try to reach people considered “impeded” by the CNC (French Cinematography Centre), by trying to increase their awareness of films and film-making and give to them the principles of film education.
From prisoners to patients in hospitals, and people living in remote areas, Passeurs d’Images always tries to broaden the horizon of “its” audience.
Most of the texts that appear in the “Reflections” section testify to this and are a reminder that one cannot “approach a potential audience without reflecting upon the place the audience is granted in the development of a cultural project.”
