Since the origins of the operation, and each year, partners from "un été au ciné-cinéville" (currently called "Passeurs d’images") gather to review all initiatives taken, to reflect on their actions, to launch new ideas or simply to meet.
In February 2004, this gathering took place in the “Forum des images” in Paris. This saw the birth of the first “National Forum un été au ciné". In December 2004, 500 persons participated.
From this edition on, each year in December, three days of Forum have marked the operation.
After the Forum des images in Paris was closed for renovation, the National Forum moved to several places, the Centre Pompidou, the Centre Louis Lumière, the Centre Wallonie Bruxelles, the Cité européenne des Récollets, and in 13 foreign cultural centres in Paris for the European Forum : in the auditorium de la MGEN, in the Paris City Hall and in the Cité Internationale des Arts. In 2009, the 7th Forum “Passeurs d’images” reintegrated the “Forum des Images”. The 8th Forum setted up in a new place : the WIP (for "Work In Progress" Vilette.
The 9th Forum "Passeurs d’images" will take place on december the 15th, 16th and 17th 2011.
During this National Forum are screened several films directed during workshops (along with professional short films). It aims at making these works known, as well as the approach to film education that underlies them, and at using these films as a support for exchanging points of views and experiences.
It gathers all young people who participated in the workshops of the operation. They present their productions, watch films directed by others during workshops, exchange and discuss with film professionals.
This forum also gathers moderators, local coordinators and project owners, professional directors, institutional partners, people responsible for the Town Policy and any audience interested in this approach.
It is also an opportunity for people involved in the operation and the audience to watch preview showings of feature-length films.
During projections, but also during open debates, numerous themes were discussed :
the memory of a district and immigration,
Film education in other European countries,
experimental cinema, video art and film education,
new practises involving mobile phones,
images of the suburb and the image of the suburb,
the place for images in prisons,
creations involving images and dance.
fictional worlds in new media (machinimas, webdocumentaires, …),
cultural diversity in media,
etc.
Atypical and uniform, this extracurricular operation on Film Education called "Passeurs d’images" exists with the constant goal to make film and audiovisual works accessible to everyone. It supported and saw the development of numerous courageous, interesting and innovating initiatives. Within the logic of a national forum, it was therefore logic for these actions based on the transmission to different audiences to be shared and reflected upon with as much people as possible during the Forum "Passeurs d’images".
