International meetings

International actions of the « Passeurs d’images » forum are numerous and diverse. They can be organised by national, regional or local joint committees, by field partners or by structures with which we weave partnerships. It would be presumptuous to list them exhaustively.

No matter in which land, everyone, and youth in particular, is constantly faced with images : films, television, videogames, multimedia, advertisements… They have become a prime source of information, openness, imagination and, increasingly, of expression and exchange, especially during extracurricular time.

Image literacy outside a school context has become an important stake of the access to citizenship, autonomy, socialisation and cultural diversity of all populations.

Numerous structures in Europe or in the world have implemented extracurricular programs on image literacy. This extracurricular time is very special, since the public is not held « captive » there. Actions, for the most part, are not part of any national or european program, they are the instigation of regional or local initiatives.

Structures must therefore always invent new ways to be financed, to interevene, to broadcast, depending on their local realities and on the targeted publics. These structures currently develop networks (such as YEFF) in order to discuss their practises. The initiatives from one group will enrich those of others, and these special experiences, often isolated, are more and more capitalized, to the benefit of the permament evolution and developpment of extracurricular image literacy.

To imagine international exchange programs between youth, practitioners of image literacy, has become a fundamental line of work for the evolution of our future societies.

YEFF ! 2011 will be held in July in Slovenia.
